A recent inspection of some Dynex 100 ton scrap cars at a steel making facility has revealed some troubling results that  crane maintenance/reliability personnel should be made aware of. During routine inspections  utilizing NDT methods  on the lifting trunnions on the scrap cars revealed extensive cracking in the base metal and  into the circumferential trunnion welds too include cracking on the backside of the trunnion welds to base metal areas. Why is scheduling inspections so hard?

So, why is scheduling inspections so hard?  I ask myself and Tim, our Senior Inspector this question.  Steel mill scheduling is like pulling teeth.  I understand shut down and the need to not interrupt production, which we try never to do.  But, these other manufacturers of misc.???  Who doesn't know they need inspections?  Who doesn't know that inspections are required...not just by law, but in order to continue safe use of all your devices? ...

A boom truck overturned yesterday on Interstate 40 to the east of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Fortunately no one was injured in the incident.
