A recent inspection of some Dynex 100 ton scrap cars at a steel making facility has revealed some troubling results that crane maintenance/reliability personnel should be made aware of. During routine inspections utilizing NDT methods on the lifting trunnions on the scrap cars revealed extensive cracking in the base metal and into the circumferential trunnion welds too include cracking on the backside of the trunnion welds to base metal areas. Left unchecked and or ignored during annual/Bi-annual lift inspections this could have led to a catastrophic failure with a disastrous ending, costing millions of dollars and possibly injuries and or loss of life.
Don't let this happen at your facility by ensuring that all your "below the hook" lifting devices are inspected at regular intervals using Qualified and certified inspectors using approved NDT methods to ensure the safety of your employees and co-workers.
